Video Packages

Learning how to script, film, and edit video packages were critical to me understanding key aspects of video journalism. I learned how to write for television audiences, how to effectively document stories in a visual medium, and how to grow my video editing skills in common post-production software programs. Read on to watch packages I completed during my time as a reporter.

KU Womens Rugby Team

The KU Women’s Rugby Team was a campus club I believed wasn’t getting adequate attention and coverage. I decided to do a feature package on the team, its athletes, and its coaches, so students could learn more about an underrepresented group. The package covers several aspects about the team, such as where they play, the rules of rugby, and what the sport means to the athletes.

KU Roundnet Club

At the time of this package, the KU Roundnet Club was steadily growing in size and so was the sport of Roundnet, also commonly known as Spikeball. I decided to do a package on the team to understand why Roundnet was becoming so popular. The package outlines the rules of Roundnet, the athletes who travel from over the country to participate in tournaments, and the sport’s accessibility to any demographic.

KU Quadball Feature

Quadball is a unique sport inspired by the fictional competition of Quidditch from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The KU Quadball Club had been active at KU for 15 years, and I wanted to capture the history of the game and how it evolved since its creation. The article, which was published in the Lawrence Journal-World, showcases the sports diversity, its one-of-a-kind rules, and the players that make the game a real-life sport.

Division I Umpire Feature

I wanted to learn more about the world of umpiring and the mentality it takes to stand behind home plate as an umpire for Division I baseball games. My feature article highlighted a veteran umpire, Tim Cordill, and the effort, passion, and commitment he possessed to be the main source of authority on the baseball diamond.

My career goal is to become a play-by-play broadcaster for a professional sports organization. My extensive experience in broadcasting has helped me learn how to best connect with audiences, develop strong research skills, and enhance my creative storytelling capabilities to help better engage with my audiences. KU vs. Fresno State Football

I was assigned as the play-by-play voice for the Kansas Jayhawks football team during the first half of their 2025 season opener against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The game was broadcast on KJHK 90.7 FM, a student run radio station on KU’s campus. The audio includes key moments that I got a chance to call from the game.

Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball

For a sports broadcasting seminar, I was assigned to pick a team I aspired to call games for in my future broadcasting career, and I chose the OKC Thunder. My goal was to create a 1 to 2 minute demo reel of some of my mock play-by-play calls from Thunder games.
